In 1829, the first Ryazan Sugar Manufactory was opened in the village of Speshnevo, Dankovsky district of the Ryazan Province. Ryazanets Nikolai Petrovich Shishkov returned from the war of 1812, and became the first sugar producer in the Ryazan Province. Being an exemplary manufacturer with intelligence and wit, he came up with the idea of replacing honey with sugar in the composition of a lollipop and prepared a new sweet for the arrival of Tsarevich Alexander.

Since sugar and chocolate were among the most expensive treats, he decorated the resulting sugar lollipop with chocolate.
This is how the famous Tsar's sugar lollipop appeared, the history of which can be found on an excursion to the Museum of the History of the Ryazan Lollipop.
